BREWSTER

Farmers Market

Bridgeport-Brewster Farmers Markets are open and produce has arrived. Brewster hours are 2-5 p.m., at the Brewster Grange and Bridgeport's are Fridays 8:30 a.m.- 12 noon., at Firemen's Park.

Fort Okanogan programs

Fort Okanogan Interpretive Center, located 2 miles north of Brewster has several upcoming program: Sunday, August 17, starting at 1 p.m., Jerry Johnson will be teaching flint knapping. No admission is charged at the center. For information 509-689-6665.

Brewster Chamber to meet

The Brewster Chamber of Commerce will meet on Tuesday, August 19, 9 a.m., at Gamble Fitness Center.

AA group

"Free At Last"! A new Alcoholics Anonymous group has formed in Brewster. Meetings are on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., at Brewster Grange Hall. All meetings will be "open".

PATEROS

New date for bass tourney

The Ray Stanley Memorial Bass Tournament has been moved to Saturday, August 23, along with the Pateros Hydro Classic. Sign up will be at the Methow boat launch at 3:30 a.m., drivers meeting at 4:30 a.m., blast off at 5:30 a.m. Weigh in will take place in the Memorial Park at 2 p.m. For more info call Shannon at 509-679-6406.

Ladies

golf winners

The Lakewoods Ladies golfers play each Wednesday morning. All levels of golfers are welcome to join them each Wednesday. Wednesday, July 30: Low Gross, Prilla Norwood; 2nd Low Gross, Kathy Dial; Least Putts, Meredith Spencer; and 2nd Least Putts, Carol Smith. Tee time is always 8:30 a.m.

Summer hours for transfer station

The Okanogan County Bridgeport Transfer Station, summer hours will be: Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. -4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., beginning June 10 to Sept. 30. Winter Hours will go back on October 1. Noon-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays. If you have any questions please call 509-422-2602.

Bridgeport Eagles hosts bingo every Wednesday. Dinner is served at 5 p.m., bingo begins at 7 p.m., with dinner available until the bingo is over. Everyone is welcome.

CHELAN

NAMI meeting

The next meeting of the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be held on Thursday, August 7, 5 p.m. at the Lake Chelan United Methodist Church, corner of Johnson and Emerson in Chelan, use the alley entrance by the Lake Chelan Clinic. Everyone is invited to attend. This is a confidential meeting. Meetings will be held the first Thursday of every month. For information 682-4371.

Wellness Group Cancer Support Group

The Women's Wellness Group, cancer support group, will meet at the Lake Chelan Community Hospital for lunch on Tuesday, August 12, at 11:45 a.m. in the Board Room. Lunch is now being provided by the Wenatchee Wellness Place.

Lake Chelan Fine Arts Festival

Lake Chelan Fine Arts Festival will be Friday, August 15 through Sunday, August 17 in Riverwalk Park, corner of Emerson and Wapato in downtown Chelan. Hours are Noon-8 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. 40 booths featuring local and regional artists. Art on display and for sale includes paintings, photography, jewelry, clothing, ceramics, quilts and more. "Art by the Foot" Silent Auction -- 12" x 12" pieces by local artists, specially commissioned for the Festival. Live entertainment provided by 8 acts on all 3 days, plus kids' activities. Free Admission.

Slam-N-Jam 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

This event is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that features players of all ages and skill levels and is played in the parking lot of Don Morse Park. For more information or to sign up 509-670-0180.

Columbia Valley Community Health Back to School Health Fair

Celebrate National Health Center Week with Columbia Valley Community Health at their 5th Back to School Health Fair, Saturday, August 9, 9 a.m.-noon at their Wenatchee location. There will be games, free backpacks and school supplies for children entering grades K-12. Students must be present to receive a backpack. Visit CVCH.org for more information. This family event is a partnership between the North Central Educational Service District, the United Way of Chelan and Douglas counties and Columbia Valley Community Health.

The Comedy of Errors to be presented

Short Shakespeareans®, a children's musical production Presents The Comedy of Errors, will be held August 7,8,9 and 14,15,16 at 7 p.m. with two matinees August 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. Performances will be held at Riverside Playhouse 233 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee. Pre-tickets: Numerica Performing Art Center 509-633-ARTS, 123 N Wenatchee Ave. or www.numericapac.org. Tickets also available at the door. $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 kids under 13. This troupe includes talented kids from many of our local communities, Chelan, Leavenworth, East Wenatchee and Wenatchee.

Wenatchee Valley Erratics to meet

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 12 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 South Mission, Wenatchee. Guest speaker will be Dr. Vic Baker, distinguished Professor Emeritus-University of Arizona-Tucson, and Mensch of the Scablands. Dr. Baker will discuss current thinking in Ice Age megaflooding of the northwestern U.S. New tools for age-dating events and computer modeling of ancient flows are transforming our understanding. This talk will be about science in progress and will explore some possible discoveries that lie ahead. Eavesdrop at the top of Big Floods research. The program is free and open to the public.
