Spring Break with Sphero
On Friday, April 7, there will be a free event at the Cashmere Public Library where kids can learn about basic coding through a program called Sphero. The program is recommended for kids age 8 and older. The event is through NCRL Mobile MakerSpace with STEM Librarian Sarah Knox. Sphero is the first robotic ball gaming device that you control with a tilt, touch, or swing from your smartphone or tablet. It connects via Bluetooth wireless technology with iPhone, iPad (all versions), iPod touch, or Android device for over 50' of wireless control. We will be learning basic coding and will attempt to complete a maze with our Spheros by the end of the session. Sign up ahead of time at the Cashmere Public Library - only 12 spots are available per hour session. There will be 3 sessions on April 7: 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. IPads will be provided at the library to use for the robots. Vale Yearbooks
To order a Vale yearbook for your child, complete and return the yearbook order form or purchase online. Yearbooks are $10 if you order by the end of Spring Break. After April 10, the price for the yearbooks will go up to $12. If you have any pictures that you want to be considered for this year's book, please email them to coxnikki@hotmail.com. If you would like to use a credit or debit card to purchase a yearbook, go to schoolannual.com, click on 'Parents: buy Your Student's Yearbook' at the top, find your school and make the purchase. Silent and Live Auction for Senior Sober Party
On Friday, April 21 there will be a Silent and Live Auction held at the Cashmere Fairgrounds. The money received through this event will go towards paying for a Senior Sober party for this year's graduating class. Donations for the auction include Mariners tickets, copious amounts of wine baskets, party baskets, and 3 original glass pieces from an art studio in Seattle. The cost for the event is $25 per couple or $15 for singles. The admission price includes a light dinner and there will be a cash, wine and beer bar available. Cashmere School District's special education services
The Cashmere School District is seeking young people from birth to age 21 who are not enrolled in school who may need special education services. We are offering three separate services:
 1) Leah Harris, Family Resource Coordinator, will be scheduling individual appointments for children birth to age three. For more information or to schedule an appointment for children birth to age three, please call 664-3781.
 2) A free Child Find screening is scheduled on Thursday, April 20 for children ages 3-5. A translator will also be available during this time to assist Spanish speaking families. For more information or to schedule an appointment for children ages 3-5, please call 782-2710.
 3) Other appointments can be made for children ages 6-21 by calling 782-2710.
Any child, birth to age 21, whose family or care givers would like more information about their child's development conditions are encouraged to contact Cashmere Student Support Services, 101 Pioneer Avenue, Cashmere, WA 98815, at 509-782-2710, to schedule an appointment.
All school districts within Washington State have Child Find screenings available. If your family is living in a temporary situation, you may contact the district where you are staying to attend a screening.
The purpose of the screening is to: 1) identify children who are not developing within normal guidelines for their age, 2) identify children for whom early intervention in a special education learning center would be most appropriate.
The Washington Administrative Codes (WACS) defines special needs as having concerns with hearing, vision, speech, language, health, nutrition learning, developmental delay, transportation, behavior management, intellectual disability, birth defects, orthopedic or spinal problems, autism or other disabilities.
