Write your life story

We all have stories to share. In this class, learn how to begin compiling a collection of your life experiences to share with friends and/or family. Pick up your pen and open a new chapter in your life in a supportive class atmosphere. This is a wonderful opportunity to recall and share memories. This class will focus on writing your life stories as well as organizing your stories. This 8-week class begins on July 10 at 1 to 2:30 p.m. and meets on the subsequent seven Mondays. Nutcracker Day In Leavenworth

The Nutcracker Museum will hold its annual Nutcracker Day on Saturday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Highlight of the day will be the judging of the student “Make Your Own Nutcracker” contest. Many local students are expected to enter the contest and winners will be announced at 1 p.m. On Nutcracker Day, learn about the history of nutcrackers, take pictures with Karl, our giant goodwill ambassador, crack hazelnuts with old fashioned mechanical nutcrackers. Each family will get a poster from the museum, and have a chance to win a nutcracker or museum book with hourly drawings. (e25,26)

Fire Department Open House

Chelan County Fire District 3 in Leavenworth is providing the community an opportunity to view their station with tours and activities for adults and kids. Free hot dogs for everyone. Plan to visit the station at 228 Chumstick Highway on Sunday, July 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bring the entire family. (e25,26)

Ponderosa 4-H Club pancake breakfast

Please join Ponderosa 4-H Club for our 61st Annual Chuckwagon Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, with sausage, eggs and drink too. Breakfast will be from 7 to 11:30 a.m. on July 4 at Lions Club Park. Club members are selling tickets and tickets are also available at the event. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and under. Rotary Rummage sale

The Leavenworth Rotary Club is holding a rummage sale on Saturday July 1 at Osborn School. Funds raised will be used to support local community projects. To donate items for the sale call Brad Brown at 548-6280. (e25,26)

Historical Railroad and Mill Tour

The Upper Valley Museum is sponsoring the Historical Railroad and Mill Tour along the Wenatchee River on Saturday, July 8. The tour, which begins at the Upper Valley Museum 347 Division Street at 10 a.m., lasts 1-2 hours, mostly on a dirt trail, one small hill and sidewalks and is about two miles long. There is a donation fee of $5. Everyone is encouraged to wear good walking shoes. Call 548- 0728 for more information. This Tour will be repeated on Aug. 12  and Oct. 14. (e26,27)

Kids’ fishing event

Icicle Valley Chapter Trout Unlimited will host a kids’ fishing event at Blackbird Pond on Tuesday, July 4 in conjunction with the Leavenworth Kinderfest Celebration. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to help kids fish. Equipment, tackle and bait will be available for those who don’t have their own. Kids 10 and under who attend the event can receive a gently used, free fishing rod and reel of their very own while the supply lasts. (e26)

Lake Wenatchee State Park summer programs

Birds of Lake Wenatchee is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5. Heather Murphy, a wildlife biologist and artist, will discuss the birds in the area and will show slides. This program is provided in partnership with the Upper Basin Birders, a Citizen Science program. (e26)

Book-It Repertory Theatre

Book-it Theatre presents: “El Deafo” by Cece Bell in a play at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 29 at Cashmere Community Library, 300 Woodring St. This is a real play with professional actors, a stage and costumes. The play lasts about 45 minutes and promises to impress. Free to the public. (er24,25,26)

Small Miracles summer lunch program

Small Miracles will be at the Cottage Avenue Park again this year with the USDA Summer Lunch Program. The program will run Monday through Thursday at noon, now through Aug. 10. This will mark the sixth year Small Miracles has fed hungry children and over 15,000 lunches have been served to date. The program is open to ALL children 18 and under. No paperwork or ID required. Just show up. The kids will be served a nutritious lunch made by Wenatchee School District. Volunteers are needed to pick up and serve the lunches.
