Cascade Boys Win League Championship

Posted

Cascade High School’s boys cross country team placed 1st at the league meet in Wenatchee on Tuesday Oct. 29, earning a berth to the state cross country meet in Pasco on Nov. 9. They beat 2nd place Cashmere 29 to 45 (small score wins). The Kodiaks were led by junior Landon Davies in 2nd place, running the 5k course at Walla Walla Point Park in 16:36. Landon continues to get faster as the season progresses. He was followed by sophomore Derek Richardson in 3rd, sophomore Owen Bard in 5th, sophomore Jacob Redman in 9th, and junior Jerome Jerome in 10th. Everyone had great races, which was necessary to beat a fast Cashmere team. Jacob Redman performed especially well, running his best time by 20 seconds and finishing in the #4 spot for the first time. Sophomore Lien Hagedorn and senior Avery Jacobson rounded out the varsity squad.

On the girls side, junior Zoe McDevitt and freshman Tillie Leroy qualified for state as individuals by finishing in the top 14 in the girls varsity race. Zoe finished in 7th place, and Tillie made it in at 14th by an amazing finishing sprint. Tillie beat her previous best time by a full minute! Junior  Celeste Villalobos cam really close to making it to state, finishing in 16th place. The girls varsity team took 3rd overall out of the five Caribou Trail League teams. Our Junior Varsity teams did exceptionally well, with the boys taking 1st place, led by freshman Anthony Villalobos and sophomore Judah Wilks, and the girls took 2nd place.

Last year the boys varsity team tied for first at the state meet, but lost on a tiebreaker. They are currently ranked 3rd in state by posted times, so they will have to run hard and have exceptional races to have a chance at winning. They’re training hard and hoping for the best!
