Cascade athletes make CTL All-League teams

Lewman, Sandoval earn “Coach of the Year” nods

Several Cascade High School athletes were selected for the 2018-19 Caribou Trail League All-League teams for winter sports.

The Cascade wrestling team, who captured both the CTL League and District 6 championships, had several wrestlers make All-League for their respective weight divisions.

Juan Martinez (106 pounds), Axel Martinez (113), Manuel Camarena (120), Daniel Sandoval (126), Jace Seely (132), Adian Arceo (138) and Hunter Reinhart (285) were all first-team selections. All seven wrestlers had won their brackets at the district tournament.

Jesus Sandoval (120), D’Andre Vasquez (145), Cole Warman (160) and Eric Rosario (182) made the second team. The four athletes took second place in their weight divisions at districts.

Austin Curry (138), Efren Guerrero (160) and Jose Valdez (170), who were third at districts, were honorable mentions.

In addition to the plethora of wrestlers who made All-League, Head Coach Jesus Sandoval was named the CTL wrestling “Coach of the Year.”

In girls’ basketball, senior Kaija Lovelady was selected for the second-team. Lovelady was the team’s leading scorer throughout the season.

Lady Kodiaks’ Head Coach Dane Lewman, who was in his third year of leading the CHS girls basketball program, received “Coach of the Year.”

The Kodiaks’ Isaac Cortes was a second-team selection for boys basketball. Cortes contributed to Cascade’s point total throughout the season.

The Kodiak boys also received the Sportsmanship award.
