Cascade football participates in EWU football camp, finishes second in Friday Night Lights Scrimmages

Cascade High Head Coach Dominique Coffin and the Kodiaks coaching staff were pleased with the team’s performance during a June scrimmage on their home turf against Quincy and Eastmont. Yet he knew the real big test would be the football camp at Eastern Washington University.

The Kodiaks participated at the EWU football camp, June 19-21. The camp was an opportunity for Cascade, and other high school football teams to practice their skills, learn under the EWU coaching staff and an opportunity to play on the university's iconic red turf.

Cascade ended the camp with a second-place finish in the Friday Nights Lights Scrimmage, a multi-team competition, going 4-1 in the evening.
The Kodiaks began the night with a 7-0 win over Deer Park. They followed with a 21-14 victory against Greater Spokane League’s Mead.

Cascade earned back-to-back 7-0 wins against Hanford and defending 4A State Champions, Union.

In their final game of the night, the Kodiaks earned their only loss against Chiawana, 7-0.

Coffin said the team performed well at the EWU, particularly the senior athletes who shined during their time at camp.

"It was good to see them (step up)," Coffin said. "Those guys had some tough years of playing when they were underclassmen, There were also some vacancies on the line and the guys did a good job in filling those positions."

Coffin noted Cascade's line played better during individual drills and received some 1-on-1 instruction from Eastern's coaches.

With the EWU camp finished, Cascade will focus on workouts leading into the first week of the season.

"Some kids will do 1-on-1 and a 7-on-7 until the season starts," Coffin added.

The Kodiaks are scheduled to play Naches Valley on Sept. 6 in their first game of the regular season.
