Cascade girls falls to Cashmere in league game

Posted

The Cascade High School girls basketball team endured a 62-6 Caribou Trail League loss to Cashmere on Jan. 15.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter. Kaija Lovelady scored three points to put the Kodiaks on the board.

In the second quarter, Cashmere boosted their lead with 18 points to take a 39-3 lead in the first half.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained their lead into the second half, adding 12 in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth. Dorothy Espinosa added three more points for Cascade in the third frame.

Head Coach Dane Lewman described the game as a "battle" between Cascade and a good Cashmere team. He commended the Lady Kodiaks for playing with intensity and focus despite point guard Alondra Acevedo being out of the game. Lewman added the team gave up too many second chance points and turnovers from Cashmere's defense.

"We still have to understand what we can do to deal with that kind of pressure," Lewman said.

Cascade, who is 0-7 CTL and 1-13 overall, will play Okanogan at home on Jan. 18.

Lewman said the mindset is for Cascade to bring the same intensity against the Okanogan as they did against Cascade. He is also hoping to have Acevedo back on the court.
