Cascade Golf team opens season at Clockum Ridge

Posted

The Cascade Golf Team is also being heavily impacted by the lingering snow, which could keep them off their home course until May. The boys’ team opened the season at Clockum Ridge on March 16 against an experienced Quincy team. Cascade lost 354-405. Quincy’s Trajan Trevino was medalist with a 79. Tim Wells paced the Kodiaks with a fine 85.

“Tim had a couple bad holes but other than that he played pretty solid for this early. We had played Rock Island this last Tuesday in a CTL Jamboree that was very informal, more like a CTL team practice and that is all. But it is just nice to get out. Bryson Murdock followed with a 99, Bruce Ledbeter-Gibbs a 103 and Stefan Zucktriegel a 118,” said Head Coach Randy Alexander.

As you might expect, it has been a fairly trying spring for the golfers.

“Assistant coach Ken Bauman and myself have been having practice in the hallways of the school daily for swing training. We also had Leavenworth Assistant Professional Tyne Vincent put on a power point presentation on the rules of golf to help the new golfers understand the many rules of golf. It was good. I appreciate Tyne helping us out. The kids really like him,” Alexander said.

On the girls’ side, juniors Jacelyn Bain and Maddie Hontou played their first rounds of the year. Bain shot a 110 while Hontou shot 113. The Quincy medalists shot 108.

“Not bad for the first round of the year. Will be looking forward to watching these two girls grow and to help develop the five new frosh girls turning out, Natalie Craig, Victoria Driscoll, Emma Helseth, Alexandra Rodgers and Anna Russell. All the new girls have improved dramatically over the last three weeks, and with more course play, they will start playing for score in our matches on the JV side,” Alexander said.

Cascade plays Warden at Sage Hills on March 23. The boys play at the Jack Barnes Invitational on Saturday at Three Lakes in Wenatchee.
