Cascade golfers participate in Gamble Sands Tournament

Posted

The Cascade Kodiak golf team competed in the fourth annual Gamble Sands Tournament on April 18. The boys shot a team score of 434. Everett High School won with a team score of 294, following Glacier Peak and Meadowdale with 319. Grayson Giboney of Kings was medalist with a 71.
Tim Wells led Cascade with a 92. His score would have been much better but not for a couple bad holes, taking an 11 on hole five and a 14 on hole 15.
“He got out into the desert/waste areas and just couldn’t get out. He took multiple unplayable lies. It was hard on him. That’s the thing about golf. You have to get over holes/shots like that and keep playing. If he would have bogeyed those holes, he would have had a 78. He played very well except those two holes,” said Cascade Head Coach Randy Alexander.
Stefan Zucktriegel followed up with a solid 100, Isaac Cortes with a 109 and Ledger Parrish contributed with a 133.
The Cascade girls were the top small school, finishing with 407 for eighth overall. Maddie Hontou had a great start with 40 on the front nine, finishing with a 90. Emma Halseth shot 101, Jacelyn Bain 103, Natalie Craig 114 and Emma Nielson 114.
“We started the season with a lot of inexperienced kids on both the boys and girls sides. And our team, finally practicing on our home course, really makes a difference. And, we have yet to have a home match,” Alexander said.
Cascade now has five home matches in row coming up. The team hosted Okanogan on April 24. Results were not available before press time. On Thursday, the Kodiaks host Omak. On Friday, they host a non-league match against Quincy. On Monday, April 30, the team hosts Chelan. On Tuesday, May 1, they host Warden to finish off the regular season schedule.
