Cascade Homecoming Football Game

Posted

Homecoming week is a chance for the student body to get creative with spirit days such as Meme Day and to have more fun than usual at lunch with activities such as tug-of-war, but head coach Dominique Coffin didn’t let the board game themed homecoming week distract the boys from the game that really mattered.

Not only was it homecoming but it was also the Kodiaks opening of league play. The tough loss against Cheney the previous weekend and Cascade’s homecoming week led up to the game against Omak on Friday, Oct. 5. The team has now faced only three minor hiccups in their overall outsanding season thus far.

“Homecoming week is always a tough one as there are a lot of distractions throughout the whole week for our players,” said Coffin. “Our staff is constantly reminding our athletes the importance of not getting caught up in it all and staying focused on the task at hand.”

The stadium was packed tight with students eager to watch the Kodiaks close out homecoming week with a game against the Omak Pioneers. Homecoming royalty, fireworks and drizzling of rain were added features to the game.

“We are keeping everything the same as usual. Our non-league schedule was made to put us in some tough situations and play really good competition,” said Coffin. “It really showed us where our weaknesses are and what we need to work on. We are excited for a good week of practice and getting prepared mentally and physically. Our goals have not changed.”

During the first quarter, the scoreboard remained bare and stagnant as both teams struggled to make it to the end zone. However, during the second quarter #6 for the Omak Pioneers ran for 11 yards and got the first touchdown for the rainy game. Later in the quarter, the Pioneers’ #6 makes a complete pass to #9 and put up 14 on the board for Omak.

The half time show was a chance for the homecoming royalty to each give a spiel about change and what it means to them, providing a connection to the new changes and transitions at the high school.

The half time show rounded out with a fireworks show that added some welcome change with pops of color in the dark and stormy sky.

Unfortunately, there was no change in luck for the Cascade Kodiaks during the second half. The score remained 14-0 throughout the second half with no touchdowns for either team and the Omak Pioneers taking the win.
