Cascade senior Ashley Parton was the only member of the track and field team to capture a state title. Parton bested the field in the 1A division with a time of 44.72 in the 300 hurdles finals.
“She had a great start, continued to push through the corner and finished strong. You could see it right from the start that she was going to win. You could watch her determination,” said Cascade Head Coach Bill Davies.
Julia Armstrong finished third in the pole vault with a jump of 11-feet. Gianna Pistoresi was fourth with a jump of 10-foot-6. Hanna Hill of Lakeside won with a jump of 12-foot-6. Pistoresi was also fourth in the high jump.
The 4x200 team of Lauren Richarson, Emily Gaines, Kascia Muscutt and Ashley Parton won seventh place.
“These girl have medals all three years. Very cool. I will miss these girls a lot. They have been the leaders and backbone of the girls team,” Davies said. “I am very proud of all the kids who ran hard today.”
Freshman Zoe McDevitt, the district 3200 champ, finished 11th at state. Josie Brenan was 15th.
For the boys, freshman Landon Davies finished fourth in the 3200 with a PR of 9:47.
“The only kids that beat him were seniors. He made several determined moves. It’s a hard race and many kids get to tired to move up. He has a really good distance coach that helped him run such an awesome race,” Davies said of his son Landon. “I have to credit Eric Wulfman for knowing how to get the best out our distance kids.”
Senior Gabe Wulfman had quite the meet as well. He was second in the disabled division 100, 200 and tied for first in the 400.
