Cascade tears through Cashmere and Omak in league dual

Posted

The Cascade High School wrestling team continued to claw their way to a Caribou Trail League championship on Jan. 17 after wins over Cashmere and Omak in a conference double dual.

The Kodiaks began the evening with a 63-12 win over the Bulldogs.

After Cameron Barnes and Hunter Reinhart recorded forfeit wins, Juan Martinez scored a pin over Erick Rodriguez. Axel Martinez pinned Myles Chapman while Daniel Sandoval earned a forfeit.

Jace Seely scored an 11-4 decision over Aaron Guerrero. Head Coach Jesus Sandoval said he knew Guerrero was going to be a tough match for Seely.

"It was nice for him to him to get that 'W'," Coach Sandoval added.

Adian Arceo, Austin Curry, D’Andre Vasquez and Eric Rosario all picked up pins. Isai Claros scored the final points for the Kodiaks with a forfeit.

Cascade continued their momentum with a 74-6 win against Omak.

Hunter Reinhart and Juan Martinez scored first-period pins to put the Kodiaks on the board. Axel Martinez secured a technical fall to give Cascade a 17-0 lead, and the team never looked back.

The dual also marked senior night for Cascade. Prior to the dual, Ricardo Barragan, Axel Martinez, Daniel Sandoval, Jose Valdez and D’Andre Vasquez, were honored for their contributions to the Kodiak wrestling program.

Head Coach Jesus Sandoval said Cascade appeared solid and focused in both matches in front of a home crowd. He is proud of how their hard work in practice translated to the mat.

The Kodiaks, who are first in the conference standings at 6-0, will compete in the Prosser Invite on Jan. 19. It will be Cascade's final tournament before districts.
