Cascade track team qualifies 10 athletes for state

Posted

The Cascade Track and Field team competed in this District 6 1A Championships on May 18 in Cashmere. The Kodiaks qualified 10 athletes for state, which Head Coach Davies said is great.

“Erin Mullins easily won the 1600 and 3200. She reset her current district record by breaking her old record by a second. We had talked about running the races at a relaxed pace so she would be fresh for state, so when she broke the record it was very encouraging,” Davies said. “She is at her prime, and leads the state in both races. There is good completion at state so we should see Erin run really fast.”

The 4x100 team of Lauren Richardson, Emily Gaines, Addie Astell and Ashley Parton won their race, qualifying for state for the third year in a row. Cashmere, which won the race the CTL meet, actually was disqualified for a lane violation. Parton finished second in the 100 and 300 hurdles. She qualified for state in the 300 hurdles because she’s ranked in the top six in state.

“We have two exceptional girl pole vaulters. Both Julia Armstrong and Gianna Pistoresi qualified with state heights. The are both ranked high in the state standards,” Davies said.

Armstrong and Pistoresi tied for second, jumping 10-feet in the pole vault. For the boys, senior Jayden Disher qualified in the high jump, winning with a leap of 6-feet. He is also ranked in the top six in state.

“Elijah Fishburne qualified in the 800. He ran a really gutsy race and nearly ran under two minutes. I believe he could be in the top three at state,” Davies said.

Gabe Wulfman qualified for state under the para athlete division.

“He is going in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 400 meters. If they had more races that he could run, he would have qualified in those also. Last weekend, Gabe competed in Arizona in a national para meet and placed in all his events,” Davies said.

Cashmere boys tied with Chelan for the meet championship with 94 points. Cascade boys were fifth with 40 points. Okanogan girls were champs with 110 points. Cashmere was second with 90.5, Cascade third with 82.

The 1A/2B/1B State Meet is Thursday to Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
