Close game between long time rivals

Posted

The Cascade volleyball team had only one game during homecoming week; however, it was notable for the Kodiaks.

The girls took on rival, the Chelan Mountain Goats at Chelan High School on Oct 2. Players didn’t let the unfamiliarity off an away court diminish their performance — nor did they allow exciting, homecoming activities to distract them from the game.

With an end result of 3-0  for Chelan, the score didn’t mirror the hard work and effort the Kodiaks have been fueling into their season.

With each team putting up its best effort, the long-time rivalry tension was heightened by the game’s close score, which remained in a steady gridlock.

After the Kodiaks put the first numbers on the scoreboard in the first set, the game began a constant back and forth for the two teams as the score continued to tie up.

With the first two sets remaining neck and neck, pressure exerted on both teams to snag those final points.

The yo-yoing of points played a major role resulting in a thin margin of error. Kodiaks’ minor slips allowed the Mountain Goats to take the win for the first two sets.

The final score for the first set was 25-23 and the second was 25-22. The third set began with a Chelan lead and they stayed ahead throughout the set until it ended with Chelan 25, Cascade 12.

This is Coach Ashley Coffin’s debut season as head coach. She has produced impressive results for the team. Before the game, the Kodiaks had a record of six wins and one non-conference loss.

This is the team’s first loss within the conference, but there is a chance for redepemtion. The Mountain Goats will travel to the Kodiaks’ territory next week for another game. This will give the Cascade volleyball team an opportunity to settle the score.
