A close game but no dice for the Kodiaks

Posted

Trial and error seemed to keep both Cashmere and Cascade at bay during the Pear Bowl on Thursday, Oct. 25. The two teams kept a static shuffle between the end zones, both facing difficulty gaining enough ground to do much with.
Within the first play, it seemed the game was going to favor the Kodiaks. Cole Warnaca No. 12 had a clean pass to Teague Duncan, No. 42 for 71 yards. The first touchdown seemed to heighten the stakes and wake up the Bulldogs. Cashmere gets ahold of the ball and Sam Phillips, No. 12, runs for one yard into the end zone, tying the score up. The first quarter remained tied until Phillips rushed 30 yards - then with 1 yard separating the Bulldogs between the next touchdown, he pushed into the end zone for their next touchdown making the score 14-7.
The second quarter scoreboard remained dormant until the Kodiaks had a false start penalty and had to go for a field goal. The 23 yard field goal was good by Jose Valdez, No. 88, and the halftime commenced with a 14-10 score. The second quarter also ended with an injured Phillips for the Bulldogs and the team subbed in sophomore, Mason Landdeck to take over.
Despite during the second half no touchdowns were made, the game never strayed from being exciting. Both teams kept responding to each other's plays with an incredible performance that kept the audience captive. A blocked punt by Cascade and interception by Cashmere was just a sliver of a highlight of how the game unfolded to be a close game performance and scoreboard wise.
The game ended 14-10 and the score reflected how closely the two teams played throughout the game. The Pear Bowl player of the season was awarded to Kodiaks' Valdez and the Bulldogs' to Dylan Gross. No. 53, who happened to be the one to intercept a throw during the game.
