CTL League Championship results in state qualifying for some runners

Posted

The cross country season rounded out its last meet, on Oct. 23, in the scheduled season with a performance that landed several runners to head to the state meet in Pasco on Nov. 3. The meet took place at Walla Walla Park in Wenatchee and was the Caribou Trail League Championship meet. The first seven individual finishers, as well as the 1st place team, moves onto compete at the state meet.
"I am very happy about how the meet went, and am excited for state," said head coach Dayle Massey. "We had about as good a meet as we could have hoped for."
The boys team took first place and beat Omak, second place, with a score of 34 to 51. The boys' finished in the order of Owen Bard, Landon Davies, Derek Richardson, Jerome Jerome, Will Cassayre, Jacob Redman and Lien Hagedorn. As the crowd thinned out, Davies was taking the lead with Bard in a clump only a little further behind. However, Bard found himself side by side with Davies at one point. Davies and Bard were neck and neck toward the end of the race, but Bard ended up pushing ahead and is the league champion. Regardless of when they crossed the finish line in comparison to their fellow Cascade runners, all of the boys will be going to state.
As for the girls, the team earned the third place out of five teams. Anna Martinez and Elise Brulotte ended up getting 16th and 17th place, but Zoe McDevitt won the girls race. McDevitt also set a personal record on the 5k course - along with many of the Cascade runners - is league champion and will be heading to state along with the boys.
And not to be forgotten, the JV girls and boys both easily won the JV races and according to Massey dominated amongst their conference competition.
"So overall  the team had an excellent day, a great way to end a fun and successful regular season," said Massey.
