Kodiak softball team drops game to Ephrata

Posted

The Cascade Kodiak softball team played only one game last week. Their March 22 home game against Cle Elum was rained out. No reschedule date has been announced. Their only game was a March 20 home contest against 2A Ephrata.
Cascade lost 10-5.
“Even though we have lost our last two games, the team has shown improvement in our defensive play in each of those games. Now, we need to find a way to avoid the one big inning,” said Cascade  Head Coach Todd Gilbert.
Sophomore Truh Merriman took the loss, giving up 5 earned runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, with 3 strikeouts and one walk. Merriman was 2-for-3 batting with 2 runs scored. Andrea Sorensen was 1-for-2 with a run and 2 RBIs. Kayla Bittle was 1-for-4 with a run and 2 RBIs.
“Today our hitting came around late as well. We had 8 hits and hit several balls very well that either went right to a defender’s glove or they made a very good play. While things are progressing well, we definitely need to improve our base running,” Gilbert said. “We had several mental errors on the basis and ran ourselves out of scoring opportunities as a result. We will just have to keep working and improving.”
Sarah Paulson pitched 4 innings, giving 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Cascade is 1-2 on the season. They opened the season at Chelan (0-1) on March 27. Results were not available before press time. The Kodiaks play a double header at Okanogan (1-0) on Saturday.
