Kodiak tennis advances seven to CTL finals

The Cascade High boys and girls tennis teams competed in the first round of the Caribou Trail League championships on May 9. Of the plethora of Kodiak athletes who competed, seven made it to the second day of competition on May 11. 

All three Kodiak girls earned a trip to the next round of competition. 

Molly Wiser earned a bye into the quarterfinals of the girls singles division. She defeated Okanogan's Ali Johnson, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals where she will battle Chelan's Emma McLarren.

After a first-round bye, Dorthy Espinosa defeated Omak's Lupita Moriel in a nail biter, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Epinosa will face Cashmere's Cate Cooper in the semifinals.

Kolby Hunt battled back to win her loser-out pre-qualifier match against Okanogan's Quinn Cantlon, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. She fell to Cooper in their quarterfinal match, 7-5, 6-1. Hunt will face Moriel in the consolation quarterfinals.

In girls' doubles, Megan Evans and Stella Johnson advanced to the quarterfinals where they defeated their Okanogan opponents, 6-2, 6-0. They will face Chelan's Rothlisbergers in the semifinals.

Hans Schlyer won his first match against Omak's John Bucsko, 6-1, 6-3. He followed it up with a victory over Omak's Adam Hendrick, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Schlyer will face Chelan's Wyatt Habich in the semi-finals.

Josh Pedersen edged Okanogan's Jesse Rosas, 7-6, (3), 6-1. He lost to Chelan's Tobin Wier, 6-0, 6-2 and was moved to the consolation round where he will face Okanogan's Brendyn Hinger.
