Kodiak wrestlers seeded into Mat Classic brackets

Cascade opens tournament against NEA opponents

The Cascade High School wrestling team has a glimpse of the competition they will face at the Mat Classic XXXI state championships, at least in the first round.

Days after the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) canceled regional wrestling events, staff revealed the brackets for this weekend’s state competition.

106 pounds - Juan Martinez will face Deer Park’s Emerson McCoullugh.

113 pounds - Axel Martinez will take on Newport’s Jeremy Ward.

120 pounds - Manuel Camarena battles Lakeside’s Austin Butkus while Jesus Sandoval faces Colville’s Devin Tinnier.

126 pounds - Daniel Sandoval opens the tournament against Colville’s Dylan Sahota.

132 pounds - Jace Seely faces Colville’s Takota Morrison.

138 pounds - Austin Curry will face Newport’s Nate Allen in the opening round of their bracket. Adian Arceo battles Colville’s Rueben Seemann in the first round of the tournament.

145 pounds - D’Andre Vasquez will battle Colville’s Kaden Mackowiak.

160 pounds - Cole Warman opens the competition against Deer Park’s Brigham Collins and Efren Guerrero takes on Freeman’s Jacob Roibal.

170 pounds - Jose Valdez battles Deer Park’s Brennan Hill.

182 pounds - Eric Rosario will face Colville’s Joey Allen in the first round.

285 pounds - Hunter Reinhart battles Freeman’s Tyson Delcour.

The Mat Classic XXXI will begin on Friday, Feb. 15. Cascade and the other 1A schools, and the girls, will wrestle in the Second Session from 2-8 p.m. Wrestlers who advance will compete in the Third Session on Saturday, which is scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The championship finals will take place later in the evening.
