Kodiaks mat squad wins Sky Valley Invitational team title

The Cascade High School wrestling team added another accolade on Jan. 5 with the Sky Valley Invitational tournament team title. Cascade finished first out of 19 teams with 139 points.

Axel Martinez won the 113-pound bracket after he earned a 10-1 majority decision over Darrington’s Darrin Sedenius in the finals.

Hunter Reinhart won the 285-pound division with a 48-second pinfall over La Conner’s Demetrius Scott in the championship match. Reinhart's win secured the tournament title for the team.

Juan Martinez took second in the 106-pound bracket, losing to Granite Falls’ Riley Hoople via pin in the championship round. Jace Seely finished second in the 132-pound bracket following a loss to tournament winner Sultan’s Aidan Fleming, while Daniel Sandoval took fourth in the same division.

D'Andre Vasquez was the runner-up in the 145-pound division while Adian Arceo finished fourth in the 138-pound bracket.

Austin Curry, Eric Rosario, Cole Warman, Manuel Camarena and Saul Vizcaino also picked up wins in their respective weight classes.

The Kodiaks travel to Tonakset on Jan. 12 to compete in the Apple Pie Invitational.
