Kodiaks volleyball team serves a loss for the Omak Pioneers

Posted

The Kodiaks went up against the Omak Pioneers one last time on the volleyball court. Fall 2018 volleyball season wrapped up with a grand finale at home on Tuesday, October 30.
Coming into the district tournament - Cascade was no. 2 in the league and Omak ranked at no. 4. Both teams had won nine games and lost 6 games total. However Cascade has won six and lost two within the conference whereas Omak's record was a flip flop record of losing six games and winning two in the league. The two teams were familiar with each other after playing two times prior.
Kodiaks won all three sets by 25-20, 25-10 and 25-10. The Pioneers put up a strong fight the first set, but seemed to lose momentum as the sets continued. Within the first set, the Cascade girls set the tone of the game, took the lead and held on for the entirety of the sets.
With a score of 18-9, freshman Giselle Cortez, was sent in and served seven points of that set - This put the Kodiaks closing the second set at 25-10. The final set  was deja vu with strong performance by the Cascade girls and ended with 25-10.
"The girls did a great job of executing the game plan and eliminating errors," said head coach Ashley Coffin. "That was the senior’s last night on their home floor and that really lit a fire for the team to play their style of play and have fun celebrating their teammates and working as a unit to finish the match on their terms."
This win catapulted the Kodiaks into the crossover game played at Lakeside Saturday, Nov. 3. The Kodiaks have played Lakeside previously in the season and lost in straight sets so this was not only opportunity to advance to state, but also possible redemption for the girls.
