Leavenworth swim team wins first summer meet

The Leavenworth Swim Team traveled to Quincy on June 20 for their first meet of the summer and won 1,124 to 343.

Several Leavenworth swimmers took the top spot in their respective division's events. Sarah Pinneo had four first-place finishes on the day in the 15-18 year 50-yard backstroke, 50 yard butterfly, 50 yard butterfly and 100 individual medley events.

Rayen Blue won the 50 yard backstroke, 100 yard freestyle, 50 yard butterfly in the 13-14 year age bracket.

Eve Gunter won the 8 and Under girls 25 yard backstroke while Cordelia Freeland won the 9-10 years 50 yard backstroke. Teyva Dillon took first in the 11-12 years 50 yard backstroke.

Cassidy Gillespie, Naomi Tveten and Maizy Groff won their respective divisions’ 100 IM races. Tveten also won the 9-10 years 50 yard butterfly and freestyle events.

In the breaststroke, Aliyah Anthony, Bailey Unger, Hailey Mathison, Tiera Groff clinched the top spot in their respective age brackets.

Payton Smith won the 8 and Under 50 yard freestyle while Elizabeth Ising took the top spot in the 9-10 years 100 freestyle. Caroline Menna and Naomi Price won the 100 freestyle events in their respective divisions.

Menna also won the 11-12 girls 50 yard butterfly and freestyle races. Stella Peterson clinched first in the 8 and Under 25 yard butterfly.

On the boys side, James Young clinched the top spot in the 15-18 years in the 50 yard freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly races.

Hugh Hyland-Swzwarc took the top spot in the 9-10 year 50 yard backstroke and Andrew Northup won the 11-12 year 50 yard backstroke.

Isaac Tveten won the 15-18 years 50 yard backstroke and Carver Robbins placed first in the 8 and Under 50 yard IM. Quinn Escure took the top spot in the 13-14 years 100 IM.

Oliver Freeland won the 25 yard breaststroke in the 8 and Under division. Ollie Vorrhis took first in the 9-10 years 50 yard breaststroke as did Melvin Northup in the 11-12 division.

Nick Hyland-Swzwarc won the 8 and Under 50 yard freestyle and butterfly events. Easton Steinhauer took first in the 9-10 years 100 yard freestyle.

Kellen Reinhart and David Ising won the 100 yard freestyle in their age brackets. Reinhart also won the 11-12 years 50 yard freestyle.

Milo Gibbs, Ezra Swart, Spencer Boyd all won the butterfly event in their divisions. Gibbs also placed first in the 9-10 years 50 yard freestyle event as did Boyd in the 13-14 years bracket.

In addition to the success in individual events, Leavenworth dominated relay events. 

The girls took the top spots in the in the 11-12 year 100 yard freestyle event, and recorded a 1-3 finish in the 11-12 years 100 medley relay.

They also recorded 1-2 finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and medley relays in both 8 and Under, and 9-10 year divisions and the 13-14 years 200 freestyle relay.

The Leavenworth girls also won the 13-14 years 200 medley and the 15-18 years 200 freestyle and medley relays.

The boys took the top three spots in the 11-12 years 100 yard freestyle relay. They also won both the medley and freestyle events in 8 and Under, 9-10 and 15-18 divisions. Leavenworth also clinched wins in the 11-12 years 100 yard medley and 13-14 years 200 freestyle event.

Leavenworth will host their first home meet on June 26 against Waterville.
