Royal meet provides a key tuneup for Kodiak track and field team

Posted

The Cascade Kodiak track and field team competed at the Ron Vanderholm Invitational at Royal last Friday. It was their last tuneup before the postseason begins.

The girls finished fifth out of 14 teams. The boys finished ninth out of 16 teams. Connell won the boys meet with Chelan second. Cashmere won the girls meet with Royal second. The meet featured several of the good 1A schools.

Senior Erin Mullins won the 800, with a time of 2:24.

“She did not run the 1600 or 3200 because we are looking forward to state where we hope that she will win both,” said Bill Davies, Cascade head coach. “The girls team placed fifth overall, but we did not have everyone at the meet with us.”

The 4x100 relay team of Kascia Muscutt, Emily Gaines, Addie Astell and Ashley Parton finished third.

“Both Emily and Addie placed in the 100 meters. Ashley Parton had a great night placing second in the 300 hurdles and second in the long jump. Julia Armstrong had a good meet as well placing in the high jump and pole vault,” Davies said.

On the boys’ side, Elijah Fishburne won the 800 with a time of 2:08. Teague Duncan ran a personal best in the 200 (24:66) and finished seventh. Stephen Tveten was third in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

“Watch this young man in the years to follow,” Davies said of Tveten. “He is quite an athlete. We will have the league meet this Wednesday at home and hope to have lots of support at the track.”

Cascade hosts the Caribou Trail League meet on May 10. The District 6 1A Championship Meet is May 18 at Cashmere.
