Tennis team showing strong improvement as season moves on

Posted

The Cascade tennis team played three matches last week against Omak, Liberty Bell and Chelan. The boys lost to Omak 3-2, beat Liberty Bell 4-1 and beat Chelan 3-2. The girls beat Omak 4-1, beat Liberty Bell 3-2 and beat Chelan 3-2.
“The teams are really starting to gel together and we are looking ahead to post season play,” said Cascade Head Coach Mark Hassinger. “We were missing some of our number two doubles but James Dickinson and Josh Paterson stepped in and fought hard. The boys are looking forward to playing Omak again because they really feel they could have beat them with a full team.”
Against Omak, the boys did not have a complete team in the close loss. Victories came from Dylan Kuehni at number two singles and Sam Keziah at number three singles.
The girls team picked up wins against Omak from Megan Evans, Kolby Hunt and Maddie Vandel at number one, two and three singles. Also from doubles duo Molly Wiser and Stella Johnson.
Liberty Bell did not bring a complete team, just three girls. Hassinger said they had some fun with the lineup with Evans and Vandel playing doubles.
“They played very well and took care of business quickly, winning in straight sets. Carmen Herrera and Dorothy Espinosa got a sweet victory at doubles as well.  Kolby Hunt played number one singles and had a great victory,” Hassinger said.
The best match of the week was at Chelan, where both the boys and girls won. Hassinger was really excited how they played. Girls wins came from Evans and Vandel in doubles, also Carmen Herrera and Dorothy Expinosa in doubles. Molly Wiser won a hard fought match in number three singles.
“After winning the first set in a tie breaker, Chelan made some adjustments and won the second set. Molly kept her composure in the third set and battled to the end. She pulled out the victory which gave us a team victory,” Hassinger said.
Cascade played at Okanogan on April 24. Results were not available before press time. The Kodiaks are at Cashmere on April 25. On Friday, they host Quincy.
