The Kodiaks will be sending two athletes to the 1B/2B/1A Girls Golf State Championships, and both of their names start with Emma.

During the Caribou Trail League/District 6/state qualifying tournament in Chelan on May 14, Halseth qualified for the state tournament after hitting a 99 to finish in second place, one stroke behind District 6 champion and Player of the Year, Jessica Vye (98) of Riverside Christian School. Nielson hit a 116 to place fourth overall and earn her way to state as well.

Halseth and Nielson were not the only golfers to represent the Kodiak girls at the tournament. Natalie Craig finished sixth with 121, one stroke behind state alternate RCS' Greysen Swanson (120). Carly Ostrem shot a 172 in her first postseason tournament as a CHS golfer.

The Kodiak girls finished with a team score of 508 to successfully defend their CTL championship. Halseth was also named the CTL Player of the Year for girls golf.

The Cascade girls were not the only Kodiaks golfers to earned another trip to a state tournament as Isaac Cortes hit 100 to place sixth overall, and punch his ticket to the 1A Boys Golf State Championship.

Ryan Totman shot a 136 and and Austin Curry finished with 151.

Cortes will travel to Olympia Country and Golf Club, in Olympia, on May 21-22 in the boys' tournament while Halseth and Nielson head to the Tumwater Valley Golf Course on those days. Both tournaments will have a practice round on May 20.

Both Cortes and Nielson come into this year's competition with state tournament experience. In the 2018 1A boys tournament, Cortes finished with a 98 on the first day, but did not qualify for the second round the competition. In last year's girls' tournament, Nielson shot a 124 on day one, but did not advance to the second day.

This will be Halseth's first tournament as a competitor. She qualified as an alternate in last year's competition.
