An open letter to the Plain Community

Dear Friends and Neighbors

Posted

As we near the beginning of the Thanksgiving Holiday season, we wanted to give a special and well deserved thanks to the volunteer firefighters at Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue.  We are so blessed to have such a well-trained and responsive group to help us as our community continues to grow.

After the thrill of driving large trucks and responding to fires sets in, the real work begins.  At any time, day or night regardless of weather conditions or what they were doing, this dedicated group of just over 30 of your neighbors responds to help their others in need. Many of the responses are helping a person experiencing a potentially life changing event; some involve traumatic life or death situations. The lives they tried their hardest to save, but couldn’t stay with them forever.  But service to their community is their creed and they are always ready to lend a helping hand someone in need.  In their free time, these same volunteers help to promote a safer environment by conducting an annual safety fair, providing fire prevention training at local schools, sponsoring a Halloween Trunk or Treat, installing smoke alarms, and helping at numerous other community events.

Leading this group is our visionary Fire Chief. He has continually lead the charge to improve every aspect of his department. Guided by Chief Lamar, LWFR transitioned from a rural district that responded primarily to fires to a multi-purpose fire and rescue organization with training, certifications, procedures, and apparatus comparable to the best districts in the northwest.  Rather than just manage the status quo, Chief Lamar and his team (including all of the officers and volunteers) have continuously upgraded and strengthened every aspect of the district.

Please take a minute when you see these volunteers and their families; stop and thank them for their service.  Their dedication and sacrifices to improve our well-being are one of the keys that make our Plain community truly unique.

With warm regards,
