Vote for a Democrat

Posted

In answer to your recent editorial advising Democrats not to vote in this election, I believe it appropriate that you print these opinions from Thomas Friedman’s Oct. 23 column in the New York Times, written before the current pipe bomb scares.

“In the midterm elections, vote for a Democrat, canvass for a Democrat, raise money for a Democrat, drive someone else to a voting station to vote for a Democrat.

“I don’t say that because I’m particularly liberal and want to shift the whole country to the liberal agenda. I say that because I’m particularly American and I want to put the best of American values back at the center of our diplomacy and politics.”

Friedman goes on to note that with Republicans controlling all three branches of our government (Presidential, Congressional and Judicial), “two more years of the G.O.P. holding every lever of power and blindly following Trump’s basic disrespect for truth, science and decency will make it impossible to elevate America’s best values.”

Friedman articulates what many of us are thinking, and why we are working to get Democrats in our state and Congressional offices. He cites the endangerment of global stability, journalists, our global climate, Presidential integrity and civility, and freedom from continued Russian interference in our elections — if Democrats do not gain control of the House or the Senate.

Vote for a Democrat. “It’s the only hope to make America America again.

Nothing else matters. Pass it on.”
