The Polar Express came through the Leavenworth Library

Posted

The Polar Express swept through the Leavenworth Library on Thursday, December 13 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children filled up the library adorned in their coziest pajamas for a Christmas party hosted by the Friends of the Leavenworth Library. A platter of the Cashmere bakery Sure to Rise cookies and in the Polar Express theme, hot cocoa.
In the center of the library, a railroad track (made of tape) was a platform for some of the little ones to hop down. The kids crowded around the tables to engage with the craft making center. Still centered around The Polar Express - there was a table to make train tickets that doubled as bookmarks, a station to make a bell ornament (that might not ring if you don't believe), and made their own conductor cap. The kids also had an opportunity to write a letter to Santa and could color Locomotives.
"Our friends (of the library) provided all the crafts, snacks and gifts and volunteered for all the craft tables and snack table, all while wearing their PJs," said head librarian Joanne Gembe.
Of course, they couldn't go to the library and miss out on reading - there was a story time that all the children seemed engaged in. Reader, David Heath, had the children clad in pajamas, complete attention while Librarian Lana Larson stood beside him to help illustrate the tale with pictures.
With 38 kids and 42 adults, it was a packed house. However everyone left with something and just Christmas spirit.
"Our amazing friends provided a Christmas Book "Night Tree"  by Eve Bunting and a Friends of the Library bag to every family," said Gembe.
