Along the Wenatchee writer, Pat Morris, left a meaningful legacy

Posted

Mrs. Pauline (Pat) Morris passed away last week. Pat Morris wrote a popular column in the Leavenworth Echo titled, Along the Wenatchee, which provided stories about the very early days of Leavenworth and North Central Washington.
Her writing career began when she took a non-fiction writing course. The history of Leavenworth became a frequent topic. From that came the Along the Wenatchee column, which ran for 14 years in the Echo.
For research, Pat would go to the Leavenworth Library every Tuesday and Thursday, looking through the microfilm of the old issues of the Leavenworth Echo. Along the way, she wrote two books about Leavenworth history, but those never got past the manuscript phase, according to her son Dan Morris, with whom she lived for the past 35 years.
While Dan did not have much to do with his mother’s writing each week, she would often talk to him about some of the interesting stories she found in the old Echos. Of course, she had a lot of local fans, some who would call her looking for information.
The 14 years of columns now fill several cardboard boxes in the Morris home. Dan has no plans to scrap anything.
