Annual Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest begins May 18

Posted

Celebrate 15 years of birding and outdoor recreation in North Central Washington at the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest, May 18-to-21.

This year’s festival truly has something for everyone and exemplifies the evolution of the festival into what it is today- a weekend of outdoor recreation, families, conservation and a chance to try something new! Traditional birding field trips around the valley are available, but so is the chance to find adventure on the Wenatchee River paddle-boarding, kayaking, and rafting or enjoying the sunshine hiking or biking! New to the festival this year are field trips to Blewett Pass and Table Mountain, a Wine and birds trip, family walks at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, and a biking trip on the new Lincoln Rock Apple Loop Trail section in Wenatchee.

Thursday night is the festival kick off at Snowy Owl theater for a showing of the light hearted film, “A Birder’s Guide to Everything”. Friday has relaxed fun with Leavenworth Sip and Paint in the Barn where beginners are welcome! Saturday is a special treat for those just looking to enjoy the day at Free Family Discovery Day from 10am-2pm. Families are treated to a live raptor show at 11am, a Leave no trace outdoor essentials class at noon (complete with snacks), archery, s’more making, exhibits, kids activities, nature walks, vendors and music live music by the Holly Blue Band.

Later in the day folks can treat themselves to the always spectacular bilingual bird walk out at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort followed by the much beloved Song Bird Concert. Tickets are available for the delicious BBQ dinner at Red Tail Canyon Farm and the keynote address by Clay Taylor of Swarovski Optik. Fieldtrips run all weekend and registration is available online until May 12th at www.leavenworthspringbirdfest.org. The festival is hosted by the Wenatchee River Institute in partnership with the Chelan Douglas Land Trust, the Washington Native Plant Society, US Fish and Wildlife, the North Central Audubon Society, Team Naturaleza, and the Leavenworth Chamber.

Come join us for your new spring tradition.
