Cascade Medical Foundation set for annual golf fundraiser

Posted

The Cascade Medical Foundation is hosting their 16th annual Golf Classic on June 18 at the Leavenworth Golf Club. It is presented by Marson and Marson, a division of Tum-a-Lum Lumber. The tournament is annually the biggest fundraiser for the Foundation, which raises money for needed items at Cascade Medical.
This year, they are raising $66,000 toward purchasing a blood gas analyzer, polarizing microscope and blood analyzer. Foundation member Bob Adamson, whose late father Jim Adamson, was a longtime foundation member, said they asked Cascade Medical CEO Diane Blake what was needed.
“She went to the lab, which said they have some stuff that needs some updating. That worked out,” Adamson said. The foundation started in 1992, the golf tournament 10 year after that. Adamson said the tournament is always their biggest fundraiser.
“I would say 70-80 percent. Home and Garden Show has a pretty nice share. We also did a Charm Walk this year as a fundraiser. I think it will catch on. It was really a lot of fun. We had 80 people participate, include 20 merchants. We had ladies night out. We do some benevolent nights,” Adamson said.
Turnout at the golf tournament has been solid, from a high of about 110 to a low of 60. They are averaging about 80 participants. The golfers are mostly local, but also from Seattle and Yakima.
Adamson they are well on their way to raising the money.
“We’ll do fine with the golf tournament. We have a lot of sponsors that are pitching in. We’ve raised over $30,000 in sponsors just from the golf tournament. We have a raffle and silent auction hosted by Brad Blackburn,” Adamson said.
Registration for the tournament starts at 11 a.m. and there is still time to register.
“If you need help finding a group, we can help you put one together. You can register through our website, cascademedicalfoundation.org,” said Emily Groby, foundation coordinator. “You’ll see the golf classic right there. You can sign up and pay online. If you don’t play golf, you can bring your significant other and participate in our auction and raffle. We have some great wines this year. Really excited about our mystery wines.”
The mystery wines have been around for awhile, she said, but now they have the wineries on board.
“The wines they are giving us are fantastic. We have no bottle under $35. The money directly benefits the hospital. That’s the great part about giving back. You can directly see the return,” Groby said.
The tournament is popular because the golfers are treated to a nice day with golf, meals and prizes.
“We have really great tee prizes. You get lunch, then start on the putting and chipping contests. The best ball scramble starts at 12:30 p.m. You play the 18. On almost every hole, there is a prize. You can win a nice bottle of wine. You can win a car,” Groby said. “All four par 3s have a big time prize for hole-in-one, but a smaller prize for closest to the pin. We have the beat the pro, longest drive contest, closest to the pin. Every foursome gets a photo at the end of the night.”
There will also a be a photographer roaming the course for some casual shots. Everyone gets a mulligan and a dropsy. Mountain Meadows will be there with cookies and lemonade. There is a commemoration to the late Louie Wagoner, a longtime Cascade Medical supporter, on the 18th hole.
