Leavenworth native killed in Afghanistan

    The death of a 25 year old Army Ranger who was a Leavenworth native was announced by the Department of Defense. Sgt. Leandro A.S. Jasso died November 24 while deployed in Afghanistan, according to a press release by the Department of Defense.
    His death was a result of wounds that were inflicted while engaging with enemy forces in Khash Rod District, Nimruz Provine, Afghanistan. Jasso was immediately treated and then evacuated to closest medical treatment facility where he would succumb to his wounds The incident is still under investigation.
    This was Jasso's third deployment where he was serving as team leader. Jasso was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He had enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2012.
