Subaru collides with fruit stand telephone pole

Posted

A green Subaru going eastbound veered off of Highway 2, missed the slight curve to  the left and eventually struck a telephone pole in front of Smallwoods Harvest fruit stand on Monday, November 19. The vehicle went through a chain link fence with a pole from the fence entering the car - causing injury - and then collided with the telephone pole by the Peshastin fruit stand.
The driver was Ashley Harvey, a 27 year old Tualatin, Oregon based female and the passenger was 31 year old male, Joshua Jacobs, from Vancouver, Washington. According to State Trooper, John Bryant, Jacobs took the brunt of the injury with part of the chain link fence pole going through the windshield and into the passenger compartment - causing the pole to impale his stomach. The accident was reported a little after 12 and the two in the car were taken to the Central Washington Hospital to be checked and treated for injuries.
"He'll (Jacobs) is recovering fine, with no vital injuries. No major organs were hit, miraculously," said Bryant.
According to Bryant, the accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Currently, the driver will be charged with 2nd degree Negligent Driving but this could change.
