Nutcracker Day

Posted

The Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum announces a contest for students who want to make their own nutcracker. Judging will be held on Nutcracker Day, July 1, the museum’s annual celebration honoring the nutcracker. The design must be the student’s own, using their own imagination and creativity, and must be strong enough to crack a nut.  To encourage students to participate in the contest, Amber Zimmerman of “Leavenworth’s Sip and Paint” created this percussion nutcracker as an example of a simple, but decorative nut cracking device using a river rock and block of wood.  A drilled indentation in the base keeps the nut from rolling away as it is cracked. More examples of easy to make nutcrackers, and information on the contest can be found on www.nutcrackerday.com (Photo submitted by Arlene Wagner)
