Otto Daniel Sather

Posted

Otto Daniel Sather was called by the Lord Jesus Christ into His Glory. Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.”
On the late evening of Jan. 16, 2018 in Mt. Vernon WA., Otto Daniel Sather at the age of 98 passed into the hands of his Father in Heaven. Otto served as the beloved Pastor for 26 years at Plain Community Church in Plain, Washington and subsequently another 26 years at Samish Island Memorial Church in Skagit County. Otto was a consummate teacher of God’s Word, and a fervent evangelist, never letting any acquaintance get away without a gospel challenge. He was a man of sterling character, passionate and disciplined in his service for the Lord, yet always gentle and kind. As a mentor to hundreds, the impact of his ministry is reflected in some of the farthest corners of the world. Answering a direct call from the Lord while on his farm in Stanwood, Otto preached the Word until finally retiring from the Samish Island pulpit at the age of 91. Though no longer in the pulpit, countless hundreds continued to visit Otto and Betty for counsel, teaching and fellowship in their always open home at Hermway Heights, Mt. Vernon. Otto never failed to offer a cheerful greeting and a warm hand of friendship to all. Though Otto and Betty never had any children, they are survived by a countless host of many to whom they ministered.
He was the son of immigrant parents from Norway who both fled their country because of persecution. Otto spent his early years farming in Stanwood in partnership with his brother Palmer. He is survived by his wife Betty Sather who resides at the Life Care Center of Mount Vernon, Washington.
