Back to School Fall 2018

Posted

The beginning of a new school year is always filled with excitement, anticipation and a little anxiety, not only for students but for teachers as well. Many students and teachers are experiencing some of this right now.

Alpine Lakes Elementary and the CHS Academic Wing opened their doors yesterday for the first day of school in new buildings. It has been almost thirty years since Cascade has opened a new school with the completion of Icicle River Middle School. Cascade High School’s phase two (the athletic wing & art classroom) will finish in mid-December and the modernization of Peshastin-Dryden Elementary will be complete in June of next year. As we move into fall, much needed additional field space will be ready as the Pine St. playfields come to completion, hopefully in time for fall sports teams to practice on. The Peshastin-Dryden Sports Complex parking lot has new lighting, paving and striping which will be ready for our first home football game. Over the next ten months, construction in Leavenworth and Peshastin will draw to a close.

Alpine Lakes parking lot will use a one-way directional plan during drop off and pick up each day. The east access off Pine St. will be “enter only” and the west access “exit only”. This will keep traffic moving smoothly and efficiently during high volume hours. If parents or visitors need to park and enter the school, please use the parking stalls on the south end of the parking lot; staff parking will be located on the far west end. If you plan to enter the building after the school day has begun, you will need to check in with the office staff at the entry window and you will be buzzed in through the secure entry. Cascade High School will be using a similar system.

The City’s Pine Street road improvement project will be completed next summer. In the meantime, it will be important to show caution and heightened awareness while driving on this street especially during school hours. Six crossing guards will be in place to guide walkers and bike riders. Walkers and cyclists enter either through the west entrance Pine St parking lot or the paved path off Titus Rd nearest the soccer field.
