Fowl Play 5k

Posted

Prior to the turkey and gravy, some community members trailed down to the downtown gazebo to partake in a little cardio before the carbs. On Thursday, November 22, otherwise known as Thanksgiving this year, families and residents participated Fowl Play 5k Fun Run.
"This was the 5th Fowl Play and participation has grown every year," said Marcia Smith, Cascade School District staff member.
It kicked off at 9 a.m., so early birds DVRed the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and left behind the stuffed bird in the oven. Despite the forecast for the day predicting rain, 204 participants headed to the Gazebo for a jog.
"The event was a huge success," said Smith. "We had our largest turnout thus far with 204 participants. The day was predicted to have 100% rain and the day was marvelous for a run."
With an open invitation to dogs and allowing even those who can't find their footing yet via stroller - anybody in the community could participate for $15 for adults and $10 for K-12. This was not only an opportunity to engage in some exercise before feasting but also simultaneously giving back to the Cascade High School tennis and pickelball fund.
People are happy to be there, they dress up, bring their kids, extended families and dogs," said Smith.
The funds are used for things such as tennis court and pickelball courts. In the past the money was put towards pressure washer brushes to clean the courts and bleachers along with putting on tennis camps for junior tennis players in the summer. According to Smith, this year the funds will funnel into picnic tables and sun canopies.
