LWFR Chief David Walker said that the male recreational shooter had a .223 round embedded in his forearm that had struck an artery and was life threatening. He was treated with a tourniquet and later transported to Central Washington Hospital. Status on the patient is unknown at this time.

Female Kayaker Saved during Water Rescue on Wenatchee River Bridge

Three recreational kayakers had fallen out of their kayak on May 28 approximately  5:30 p.m.at Wenatchee River Bridge. The kayakers were calling for help, as one female kayaker was able to escape the freezing cold river water, while one other female kayaker was pulled out of the river by two Chelan County deputies.

“It should be noted the actions of the two deputies saved this woman’s life,” Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue (LWFR) Captain Mike Stanford said. “Had they not been there she likely would’ve not made it out of the river in time. ”

12 LWFR first responders and Cascade Ambulance were also there to assist. All three kayakers were treated for hypothermia, while the woman who was rescued by the deputies was taken to Cascade Medical to assess for drowning. Status on the kayakers is unknown at this time.

“People don’t always understand the power or the temperature of the river when winter runoff is still occurring,” Stanford explained. “Even calm looking water can be dangerous. Always wear a life jacket. Right now, the river should be avoided for amateur recreation or floating.”

“If you are not prepared to be in the water, don’t be on the water,” Walker states.
