Downtown Leavenworth to undergo temporary road closures for sewer mainline replacement

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — City officials have announced a series of temporary road closures in downtown Leavenworth, scheduled for mid-March, to facilitate a crucial sewer mainline replacement project. The construction, set to span two weeks, will necessitate the closure of specific streets to vehicular traffic, with comprehensive measures in place to minimize disruption.

During the first week, from Monday, March 18, to Friday, March 22, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., 9th Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from US Hwy 2/Front Street to Commercial Street. An exception will be made for emergency vehicles, with a dedicated lane provided. The city and contractors will establish detour signs and an alternate route to the hospital. Parking will not be permitted on 9th Street throughout this period.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the west side of 9th Street, ensuring minimal disruption for foot traffic.

Additionally, the Edelweiss Weg Alley between 9th and 10th Streets will be off-limits to vehicles, affecting deliveries during operational hours.

The second week of closures, from Tuesday, March 26 to Friday, March 29 will follow similar restrictions, with added overnight work commencing at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, and concluding at noon on Wednesday, March 27. This will further impact Edelweiss Weg Alley between 9th and 10th Streets, including during overnight hours.

Residents and visitors are advised to plan their commutes accordingly and remain alert to potential closure dates or location changes to accommodate the construction schedule.
