Hearing Examiner will consider variances for two Leavenworth development projects

Posted

LEAVENWORTH—A Hearing Examiner will review two applications submitted by the City of Leavenworth regarding its Glacier Lot Improvement Project and Front Street Restroom and Stairway Expansion Project on Apr. 8 at 1 p.m. via Zoom Webinar.

The City is requesting variances to reduce the front yard setback for both projects. The City is asking to reduce the front yard setback to five feet from the front property line adjacent to Highway 2 for the Glacier Lot. The variance would accommodate the construction of a public restroom at the lot. Glacier Lot construction is slated to begin with the public restrooms before May 1, Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Manager/Deputy Public Works Director Andi Zontek-Backstrum told the City Council on Mar. 26.

The second request is a variance to reduce the front yard setback to zero feet from the front property line adjacent to Highway 2 for the Front Street Restroom and Stairway Expansion Project. The variance would allow for the construction of a pedestrian pavilion structure above the new Front Street restroom facility. Construction is tentatively scheduled for spring, but a construction bid has yet to be awarded.

Written comments from the public can be submitted to the Community Development Department at mboles@cityofleavenworth.com no later than 5 p.m. the day before the hearing to ensure they are entered into the record. The hearing will be held on Zoom only. Those who are unable to attend virtually can contact City Hall at least one day prior for special arrangements.
