The striking mountain profile of a sleeping woman that sets the stage for outdoor adventurers to the Icicle River area south of the community of Leavenworth is featured in the latest Link Transit bus design to appear on the side of one of the agency’s 40-foot vehicles.

The custom vinyl artwork was crafted by the Wenatchee team of Mary Big- Bull Lewis and Rob Lewis of Wenatchi Wear and R Digital Design.

A public unveiling took place at noon, on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Centennial Park during the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center’s Salmon Bake. The unveiling included an oral tradition story from the Wenatchi people by master storyteller Randy Lewis.

“Long before the Icicle was discovered by hikers, bikers, mountain climbers and campers, this area was a gathering place for indigenous peoples,” said Link Transit General Manager Richard DeRock of The Icicle. “It was, and still is, a special place where those who have ties to this land that go back thousands of years and countless generations can celebrate their heritage. We are honored to have this art on one of our vehicles and especially honored to work with Mary and Rob on this project.”

Link is working with Pullman artist David C. Hoyt to create tributes to Clyde Pangborn’s historic transpacific flight, North Central Washington recreational opportunities, agriculture, and local history.

Link Transit, the public transportation provider for Chelan and Douglas counties, delivers safe, reliable, and zero-fare service seven days a week to a 3,500-square-mile service area.
