Couple celebrate 75 years of wedded bliss

Verg and Mert Bloomquist celebrated their 75^th anniversary on June 2.

They were married in a triple ring ceremony on June 2, 1945 in Carson City Nevada.

The wedding was performed in the preacher’s home with only Mert's mother, Mrs. Opal Doutt and Mert's sister Ruth Ingertson in attendance. Witnesses included two shipmates of Verg’s who were also married that day during the same ceremony.

The navy buddies honeymooned in Tahoe before returning to active duty in the Navy in Fallon Nevada.

Following the war the couple moved to Independence Missouri where Verge went to work for DuPont. He worked for DuPont for 27 years.

Together they had two sons and now count 3 grand children and six great-grandchildren in their family.

The couple purchased a summer home in Leavenworth in 1992 and moved permanently to the community in 2013
