Jive Time in the Cascades features big sounds and classic favorites

Posted

You can enjoy toe-tapping tunes and joyful jazz when Cascade Medical Foundation hosts Jive Time in the Cascades on Saturday, October 1, beginning at 6:30 pm in the Snowy Owl Theater.

Presented in partnership with the Icicle Center for the Arts, this new event will feature the Wenatchee Big Band (WBB), a 20-piece ensemble formed more than 30 years ago. The group will play two sets, including swing and jazz standards – and popular crowd favorites.

“The Wenatchee Big Band is excited to help raise funds for the Cascade Medical Foundation and the quality medical care and equipment for the community. We're also excited to be playing in the Snowy Owl Theater," adds Tim Zanol, manager of the WBB.

“People can come as they are and just sit and listen, or don their dancing shoes, get dressed up and be part of the show,” explains Shannon Keller, one of the event organizers and a Foundation board member.

Keller, who organized a similar event in another community before making Leavenworth home, says she’s been surprised by the universal appeal of big band music.

“It amazes me how those sounds of yesteryear – and the sounds reminiscent of the Glenn Miller era – draw people of all ages. We’ve heard a lot of buzz and excitement from our friends and neighbors about this event.”

In addition to the Wenatchee Big Band, Village Voices will perform a short, acapella set during the intermission.

While the beautiful backdrop of the Cascade Mountains and the sounds of music are sure to make this event a big hit, there will also be a great selection of picnic delights for purchase, including pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, barbeque chicken and sides. Beverages, including beer and wine, will also be available for purchase. A “Buy-It-Now” board, featuring gifts cards donated by local businesses, will offer another opportunity for concert goers to shop and support the work of the Foundation.

Tickets for the event run $35 per person and advance purchase is recommended. Visit cascademedicalfoundation.org today to get tickets. This will save you time, shorten the day of event line and help event organizers make sure there’s plenty of food and beverages.

All proceeds from Jive Time in the Cascades will benefit the Cascade Medical Foundation and their work to support vital community health needs. Recent fundraising projects have paid for cardiac heart monitors and electric mountain bikes for our EMS providers, who are called upon to assist hikers and climbers in our region. They also may be used during festivals or events, when electric bikes offer a quicker, more accessible option.

“We’re excited to host our community, to bring people together to celebrate great music and a great community, all while supporting a wonderful community treasure, Cascade Medical,” Keller says.

Adds, Diane Blake, CEO of Cascade Medical, “Events like these help the Foundation fund critical needs for us and, in turn, we’re able to continue to provide high quality care to our community. We’re so fortunate and grateful for our community’s support – it really takes us all, working together, for a healthier community.”
