Feeling sorry about your vote yet?

So, you take pride in being enlightened. You revel in new “progressive” ideas. You have concluded that capitalism is an unfair way to distribute wealth. Or, you just believe that evil capitalists are destroying our planet because they are just greedy people.

I don’t think capitalists are perfect. They’re human just like the rest of us, but in looking back over the last 50 years I have to conclude that “progressive” experiments have not produced any measurable improvements.

Affirmative action – are race relations better or worse?

War on poverty – have we had any measurable reduction in poverty in this country?

Homelessness – our major cities are becoming slums with homeless camps everywhere, sidewalks full of human excrement and businesses boarded up.

The problem is we have relied on bigger and bigger government solutions to addressing our problems. They have all failed miserably.

Well buckle up pilgrim. You are about to get your way. While President Biden is stumbling for words and delegating the big chores to wild eyed dreamers whose new progressive solutions are well…wild.

Lets start with shutting down all fossil fuel production. Coal produces 46% of the electricity in this country. Cars, trains and planes – Oh my! They run on fossil fuels. Are you ready to put your behind in the seat of a solar powered airplane? Just look at Texas – the windmills froze and people were without electricity for days.

Climate change – progressives blame fossil fuels on changing temperatures. First, we were going to get ever increasing temperatures that would melt the glaciers and polar ice caps. The oceans would rise and we would all drown. Now that their forecasts have failed to come true, they just change the title to climate change. Really?

Foreign policy – we just need to be a kinder, gentler nation and the dictators’ of the world will like us. You have really got to be kidding me here! They will like us if we quit interfering with their goal of world domination.

Race relations – we are going to improve our acceptance of each other by destroying our history and pretending that things are better now. How many generations before we forget the lessons of the past and start repeating the behaviors that got us here?

Socialism – promises economic balance will result in better life for all citizens. Have you ever looked closely at the countries that have tried this? The unfortunate truth is the leaders end up wealthy and unconstrained by the rules they make for the rest of society. When the populace realizes they have been cheated things turn violent.

So, let’s look at what’s on the agenda so far:

Destroy good jobs for working Americans without a real plan to put them back to work.

Rejoin the Paris Climate change accords which allow the worst polluters in the world to continue to do what they are doing while making America more dependent than ever on foreign sources of oil and gas.

Pay bribes to Iran while accepting their continuing drive to make a nuclear weapon.

Pushing economic policies that are destroying private sector jobs in the name of saving lives.

Closing schools – It is hard to know where to begin on this insanity. It seems only fair that if we’re going to force parents to become home schoolers we should give them the teachers’ salaries for not doing the work we are paying the teachers to do.

Let’s face it. The government with all of its power cannot create productive jobs. The closest they can come is building new infrastructure. But even then government does poorly in getting important jobs done quickly. The private sector can do most of these jobs more quickly and efficiently than any government agency.

I’m often reminded of that when I go through Tacoma where I5 has been under construction ever since I moved here 20 years ago.
