Artists at the Leavenworth Library

Posted

Dorothy Ford Johnston

As a child, Dorothy always knew she wanted to be an artist. She drew and painted whenever she got the chance and was chosen to illustrate her high school yearbook.  During the 1950s and 60s while raising 3 children, she studied with Greta Aufhauser and later worked for Vanguard Studios in Chatsworth California.  She graduated from Humboldt State University in 1987 with a BA in Art. She has resided in Leavenworth since 2012.  Dorothy enjoys all art media, much of her work is done in pastel, acrylic, and watercolor. Much of her inspiration comes from plant and animal forms. Now to August. 12.

I have been obsessed with color and all things tropical ever since I was born and mostly raised in Hawaii. Not only was I surrounded by gorgeous flowers, rainbows, sunsets, and the ocean, but my parents were artistic and always provided me with art supplies and creative opportunities. I loved to draw flowers, horses, and glamorous ladies. I have also enjoyed documenting my life through photography, mixed media, collage, and paint. In order to survive these long, gray, Washington winters, I’ve found that splashing bold, bright colors onto the page is the best way to create my own sunshine and fill my tropical soul. Vist the Fireside room August 15- September. 23.

Please stop by the Fireside Room in the Leavenworth Library during regular hours to see their art show.

Now August through September.
