Cascade boys soccer shuts down Omak

Kodiaks sweep Pioneers 5-0

Posted

A month into the season, the Cascade High School boys soccer team finally played on their home turf on April 11.

In front of the home town crowd, the Kodiaks swept Omak, 5-0, to remain undefeated in conference play.

Arturo Avila scored Cascade’s first goal in the second minute, giving his team their only point in the first half.

The Kodiaks came out ready to go as Jose Valdez drove the ball through the net in the 52nd minute. Avila scored his second goal of the game, earning a brace, in the 57th minute with an assist from Jalen Wills.

Raul Mata scored the Kodiak’ fourth goal in the 63rd minute while Jose Rivera added Cascade’s final goal in the 72nd minute.

Co-Head Coach Pete Spiegel said it was nice for Cascade to pick up the win in what was not only the team’s first home game, but also the first time his players had touched the field.

Spiegel explained the Kodiaks are learning to control games and possession against their opponents. However, the team still needs to work on finishing their offensive attack and score.

“If we can play our game by spreading the back and playing the ball on the ground, we’ll be fine,” he added.

Cascade will host Brewster on April 13 in a non league match.
