Cascade girls basketball coach returns for the season

Winter Preview

Posted

After the girls were suspended in a brief limbo with an absence of a head coach, Dane Lewman, former head coach, returned for the season to coach the girls in the upcoming winter.
"We got fortunate at the last minute when Dane Lewman expressed an interest to come back and coach basketball," said Superintendent Bill Motsenbocker at the November 27 school board meeting. "We were really at a place where we weren't sure who was going to coach girl's basketball, so that was nice."
A varsity team stacked with upperclassmen and familiarity with the coach will help the girls already have a strong foundation of chemistry on the court. Seniors on the team are Dorothy Espinosa, Kaija Lovelady, Nicole Dunn and juniors are Emma Halseth, Alondra Acevedo and Jocellyn Roriquez.
Despite a tough loss against Quincy, ending 29-24, and Naches Valley, ending 23782, the team has a long season ahead to gain their footing. In the upcoming weeks they go up against Okanogan, Cle Elum, Chelan, Omak and the always anticipated rival Cashmere on Friday, December 14.
The girls will finally get a home court advantage on Thursday, December 27 that will stretch till the following day, Friday, December 28. The first home game(s) will be when the team hosts the Cascade Holiday Tournament. After this the team will play Highland as the first game of 2019.
