Lady Kodiaks blow out Omak in CTL doubleheader

The Cascade High softball team had their bats polished and cleats laced up as they scored a combined 37 runs between the two games of their April 26 Caribou Trail League doubleheader against Omak.

The Lady Kodiaks delivered a 20-3 thumping to the Lady Pioneers in game one, followed by a 17-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Omak opened the first game with a one-run lead in the first inning, only for Cascade to answer with five runs in the bottom of the frame, and five more in the second inning. The Lady Kodiak’ best inning came in the third after scoring nine runs with Truh Merriman, Kaija Lovelady, Kayla Bittle Jocelyn Rodriguez and Madeline Schiefelbein bringing home base runners.

The Lady Kodiaks collected 12 hits with Rodriguez’s 3-for-4, four RBIs and double, leading the pack. Lovelady was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a double and Lambert was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Merriman earned the pitching win in game one, throwing four innings, striking out seven batters, walking one and allowing two runs on five hits. Relief pitcher Lovelady threw one inning.

In game two, Lambert earned the pitching victory after throwing a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Cascade scored one run in the first inning after Lambert brought home a base runner on a groundout. The Lady Kodiaks added seven in the second and nine in the third with many coming from walks, groundouts and base hits from Alondra Acevedo and Schiefelbein.

Lovelady was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Merriman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Cascade (10-1 CTL, 16-3) has all but clinched the conference championship. They face Cashmere in their final home game of the regular season on May 3. Before the game, the senior athletes will be recognized for their contributions to the team.
