Setting the record straight

Posted

Thanks for the Echo's coverage of City Council's public hearing regarding the annexation request from the prospective owner of land where the Alpine Slide Adventure Park might be located.
I would just like to clarify a quote attributed to me, but unfortunately printed out of context:
"Would it even be likely to be permitted under Chelan County status? Yes, this acreage is within the commercial/recreational zoning of the Urban Growth Area, designated in the 1990s...."
In fact, my statement addressing annexation questioned whether the 11-acre Adventure Park proposal could even operate without city services such as water, sewer, power and other essential infrastructure extended there.
The developer(s) clearly want to make sure those necessities are provided; otherwise they would remain under Chelan County designation.
Thus, the quote - as printed - completely misconstrued my point.
Furthermore, a Traffic Study was allegedly submitted by the prospective developers - in advance of the Annexation approval. I believe this piece of the formal development process should be invalid because it pre-dated annexation. It also showed serious intent on the part of the developers to pursue their project on the corner of Icicle Road and Highway 2. It was therefore disingenuous for the City of Leavenworth to dismiss any public comment on annexation that referenced those who were instigating it.
