Visit the Beautiful Gardens of Leavenworth

Posted

On Saturday June 29, an open house showcasing the gardens and buildings located at the Wenatchee River Institute was held. A scavenger hunt leading guests from location to location with special emphasis on the beautiful gardens cared for by the Cascade Garden Club. The gardens and grounds are open to the public and a great place to take a walk or pack a lunch to enjoy the gardens. Here are two of the gardens to check out;

The E. Lorrene Young Community Garden located at the corner of 12th and Commercial streets. This fenced garden has raised beds rented by village residents, a sandbox for children to play in and a sitting area to come and read a book from the new “Little Free Library” built and donated by Don and Mary Morse.  The Garden Club holds outdoor classes and demonstrations during the warmer months – stay tuned for upcoming events.

The Francis Field Memorial Garden located between the River Haus and the Red Barn at the end of Division Street is a lovely garden of specimen plants on a hillside overlooking and leading down to Barn Beach and the Peavine Trail. This beautiful garden is one of the entrances to the many walking trails on the grounds of Wenatchee River Institute and connecting trails to Waterfront Park.

Stop at the Kiosk in front of the River Haus and pick up a map of the Gardens and Walking trails.
